چکیده
This work presents the design and implementation of a porous polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS)-based wide-range flexible pressure sensor for autonomous underwater vehicles. The capacitive sensor, with PDMS as dielectric, is encapsulated in bulk polymer. fabricated was evaluated over wide range (0-230 kPa), which similar to pressures experienced up approx. 23 m below sea level. sensors showed linear response when tested air near-linear (98%) submerged water. much higher sensitivity (0.375 kPa −1 ) water than environment. However, exhibited performance condition (0.005 readout electronics (encapsulated inside watertight enclosure) also along sensor. fast recovery time (190 ms), well excellent repeatability stability (no drift) 50 loading unloading cycles. These results demonstrate suitability presented potential use applications requiring pressure, particularly robotics where real-time monitoring critical operation.

Sensor-Based Control of Holonomic Autonomous Underwater Vehicles
For underwater vehicles to be self-suucient in an a priori unknown environment, feedback from the environment through altitude sensors is essential. This paper presents how this feedback can be eeciently achieved for fully actuated holonomic autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) in which diierent simultaneous primary tasks have to concur to the achievement of a mission. These vehicles are submi...
متن کاملSensor-based Formation Control of Autonomous Underwater Vehicles
We address the subject of formation control of underwater vehicles, using either inter-vehicle relative position measurements or range-only measurements. The work is motivated by the MORPH project, aiming to use formations of vehicles with complementary capabilities to map the underwater environment in challenging conditions. The main problem studied is that of driving a vehicle (follower) to a...
متن کاملMosaic Based Navigation for Autonomous Underwater Vehicles
We propose an approach for vision-based navigation of underwater robots that relies on the use video mosaics of the sea bottom as environmental representations for navigation. We present a methodology for building high quality video mosaics of the sea bottom, in a fully automatic manner, that ensures global spatial coherency. During navigation, a set of efficient visual routines are used for th...
متن کاملNeural network-based underwater image classification for Autonomous Underwater Vehicles
Image processing has been one of hot issues for real world robot applications such as navigation and visual servoing. In case of underwater robot application, however, conventional optical camera-based images have many limitations for real application due to visibility in turbid water, image saturation under underwater light in the deep water, and short visible range in the water. Thus, most of...
متن کاملUsing Autonomous Underwater Vehicles as Sensor Platforms for Ice-Monitoring
Due to the receding sea-ice extent in the Arctic, and the potentially large undiscovered petroleum resources present north of the Arctic circle, offshore activities in ice-infested waters are increasing. Due to the presence of drifting sea-ice and icebergs, ice management (IM) becomes an important part of the offshore operation, and an important part of an IM system is the ability to reliably m...
